Indie Author Roadtrip (Day 3, Pt 2): Self – Publishing Promot

Reid: What do you eating?

Allison: Beignet from Café Du Monde. It’s delicious.

Reid: Give us a self – publishing tip for those who were…

Allison: Well, if you’re wondering in the places that we’re stopping, I didn’t actually premeditated any of this. I knew that Charis existed in Atlanta and I knew that I would want to… Okay.

Reid: No, just keep talking. I’m just giving them some architecture.

Allison: I knew Charis existed and I knew that they were stocking my book because I talked to a friend there who works there. However, for all the other feminist bookstores that I have mentioned so far [inaudible 00:00:51] here in New Orleans and we don’t even know when we’re going to Dallas yet. I’m really just stopping in and saying hello and introducing myself. That’s really how it works. So basically, introduce yourself as an author as to the bookseller and ask if they be like carry your book. Ask if they’d be willing to order your book or even if they have copies in there, ask them if you can sign them. It’s really just about creating relationships like that. Really simple relationships and saying hi and asking if any way we could help them and if there’s any way that they could help you. It’s indie authors and indie bookstores have a lot in common and you’d finding friends among the booksellers is really keep. So that’s my tip.

Reid: Awesome. Where we are driving today?

Allison: We are going to Dallas, Texas from here in New Orleans. It’s going to be about 9-hour drive and I think it’s going to be a beautiful drive because straight from the heart of Louisiana. Enjoy hopefully some breakfast/lunch and [Inaudible 00:01:49] I don’t know how long this going to last me. From New Orleans and new publishing road trip.
