Distinction Between Transgender and Transgendered

Cathy: What’s the difference between transgender and transgendered?

Reid: Cathy Vartuli from http://www.TheIntimacyDojo.com/

Cathy: Reid Mihalko from http://www.ReidAboutSex.com/

Reid: Okay. I’m going to, I didn’t want to do this video at first and now I do want to do this video. But I’m just going to say I’m not the person who you should be giving anyone’s’ answer to this question. We should get the answer to questions like this, from people who identify as trans. because they are their lived experience and their opinions way are more important on this answer than some white guy whose cisgender in lingo of sex meaning that the gender I was assigned at birth works for me. So I never questions which bathroom to use or felt out of place. You know when people said that oh you’re a man or Reid “he this he that,” like if fits for me. And that give me certain privilege  know there’s all these other privileges with me being a dude me being white and all these other things .That’s the first piece, what I will say in this question is I have been lovingly given an upgrade that I somehow pick up the bad habit of saying transgendered folk. When really it’s Trans or transgender folks or people.

Cathy: Without the Ed- at the end.

Reid: Without the Ed- because it’s a verb and so I’m I want to say that if you ever watch me on a video or hear me in a room. If you ever see me do it and do the Ed- that’s a bad habit of mine that I’m trying to fix. So, please after the events or you know write to me and be like you know Reid you know stop Ed-ing transgender and that will just help me. And then there I know that there are past videos or podcast or something where I said it and moving forward. I’m making a commitment to stop doing that bad habit and really take the upgrade and that’s all that I can say about that. Because I think this is a great question for you today you know ask a transfer person.

Cathy: I heard transfer ….

Reid: I almost said it. That’s how bad habit is.

Cathy: When I first heard the word it was often with a Ed- at the end. I think that’s its evolved and people are not verbing it. It is who they are and I hope to do some more video on that. Thank you for sharing that.

Reid: You’re welcome.
