“Until we have cultural examples of healthy promiscuity, we can only pathologize those who have lots and lots of sex. Are you a sex addict or are you just a clumsy slut?” ~Reid Mihalko

I am looking for information on sex addiction and how to know the difference between that and just wanting to have many sex partners (is that synonymous with poly and is that synonymous with non-monogamous?). Someone I was recently involved with, but no longer, is non-monogamous. Going in I knew this even though I am naturally monogamous (but poly-curious and am in a “half-open/cuckold relationship) so I am wondering about myself! We stopped because he chooses not to love. He’s been hurt and doesn’t want love. Which is unfortunate for me, I fell in love with him (not quite me species!?!) but I do wonder if his detachment, which he said was an issue in his past marriages, is pointing to an issue with sex addiction?
