Close up of senior African couple smilingBeing vulnerable takes courage…How is that making a difference? How are YOU making a difference?

With Reid Mihalko from ReidAboutSex.com and Cathy Vartuli from TheIntimacyDojo.com

Reid: This is going to be a fun video for the person who wrote in this comment. We’re going to start up by saying that you rock. Who are you?

Cathy: I’m Cathy Vartuli from TheIntimacyDojo.com.

Reid: I am Reid Mihalko from ReidAboutSex.com. I’m going to read this whole comment and then we’re going to rock this video.

This person wrote in. I would like to be appreciated for the courage to be vulnerable with the people that I am close with, when all I want to do is hide. Even though I try to work through it daily and have made significant process, it’s still an area of shame so strong for me, that I’ve never even considered that I could ask to be appreciated.

I appreciate both of you for being exactly who you are and for providing these videos. You have no idea how much your sincerity and just allowing yourselves and others to be human in general, how much that really helps.

Guess what we get to do for you, and all of the people who watch these videos, because now we have over a million views. We get to appreciate our viewers in this video.

Cathy: Yeah.

Reid: What would you like to do to appreciate these people Cathy Vartuli?

Cathy: I know how hard it is to struggle with shame. I’ve been there and I think it’s there sometimes. The fact that you are generous enough to fight your way through the shame and get out there and make a difference, I really appreciate you. I appreciate your courage and your generosity. I hope you keep giving to the world because you are a role model and a bright light in the world that really needs you.

Reid: I want to appreciate you for leaving that comment, so that we have the opportunity to tell you how awesome you are.

Cathy: Mm-hmm. (Affirmative)

Reid: That, you realize that life’s not easy. That, you come and find resources and spend your valuable time and focus watching videos like this. That you get to see us doing what we do. I want to appreciate you for appreciating us, because words of appreciation are one of my love languages for receiving.

When I’m having a bad day and feeling like I’m full of shit, and that these videos are horrible, and that I’m not helping anybody, you leaving a comment like this actually touches me and reminds me that I’m doing a good job.

It doesn’t have to be perfect, but that people care. That we are actually changing the world in small baby steps. Maybe in huge baby steps. For every one of you who leaves a comment or a question, or even just a like on the video, you’re speaking for the thousands of people, now that we have over a million views, who aren’t leaving comments but whose lives we are helping, we’re impacting just the same.

That you have the courage to show up, to try to learn tools and integrate things so that you can be better or be the person you’ve always wanted to be, or impact the relationships in healthier ways. You’re being the change you want to see in the world, and I think that’s awesome.

That goes, not just for this amazing person who left the comment, but for you who are watching this video right now. Because you could be watching videos about cats and we all know how tempting that is.

Cathy: Mm-hmm. (Affirmative)

Reid: Maybe we’re better than cats, I don’t know, but I just want to say thank you for all of you, and to all of you, and to you.

Cathy: Thank you for asking. Would you leave comments below and let us know what you’re proud of yourself for. What you’d love to be acknowledged for. Because when we ask, it empowers ourselves, and it lets other people share … They may think that you got it all together. They may think that you wouldn’t care to hear them say words of appreciation.

Letting them in like that, creates a really warm and connected world, and you’re making a difference.

Reid: Understand, there’s going to be some jackass who’s going to leave some hater comment and haters are going to hate and that’s how you know, because it’s our little secret. That if people are hating us, it’s because we’re awesome. Leave your comment. Bye.
