We know it when someone is romantic to us. We know we score big points when we’re romantic to someone else. However, teaching someone how to be romantic or how best to romance us is way more complicated than exchanging cards and a teddy bears once a year. Let’s face it: for a relationship to last more than one date, let alone 20-years, Hallmark and Hollywood suck at giving us blackbelt level skills.
Because so many of us fail when it comes to romance or finding someone who’s “romantic enough,” our dating lives and relationships fall short. For the “freshly in love,” the endorphins and warm fuzzies of new relationships have a shelf-life and, once the honeymoon period fades, most can’t keep the romance alive.
How can you tell if someone is good at romance from one date and if they’ll continue to be romantic a year from now? Can you teach an old dog new tricks? Is long-term romance even possible? How can you use romance to strengthen your relationships with others and even with one’s self?
